Strategic Shopping - Chapter Three: Shopping at Walgreens

When I learned about Walgreens, it quickly became my all-time favorite store.

Walgreens actually pays you to shop at their store! Many times, they have two or three products that you can get paid to take.

Walgreens does not have a store savings card, but they usually have two or three

products each week that they will pay you to take.

Scenario #1:

Shaving cream - priced at $2.99 with $3.00 register rewards

Dove body wash - priced at $7.99 with $8.00 register rewards.

Notice that in this scenario I was paid a penny to buy each item. Now, if I used a

coupon to go with these purchases, I would have made more money on the deal!

I use these register rewards to buy what I actually need that week. If I need to buy

toilet paper and dish soap, I would buy the free items with my shopping money, and usethe register rewards to buy my needs.

Register rewards are simply coupons that can be used to purchase anything in that

store. (Be sure and check your store’s policy. Some stores may exclude certain items.)

They are coupons given back when you check out. You can turn right around and use these rewards without leaving the store. I usually have everything in my cart and just do separate transactions using the proper coupons. (Names for these coupons given to you when you check out are: Catalinas, Register Rewards, +Up Rewards, Extra Bucks, etc.)

Don’t buy multiple items of the same product that is offering the rewards on one

transaction because only one reward will print. The clerks at these stores do not mind if you do multiple transactions. You can use the RR on the same product for which you received it, but if you do, it will not print another reward. So, if you buy toothpaste that offers a RR, then don’t use the register reward to buy that same toothpaste.

My Rite Aid Trip

I had a GREAT trip to Rite Aid this afternoon!

They are having a buy $25.00 worth of Zyrtec and Visine get $10.00 in +UPRewards deal!

I bought:

1 - 14 count of Zyrtec
1 - allergy Visine
2 - 15ml. Visine original

TOTAL BEFORE COUPONS = $28.76

AFTER COUPONS = $11.76 (This was my OOP - out-of-pocket)

PLUS, I received a $10.00 +UPReward; in essence, making my purchase price ONLY $1.76!

Walgreens

Walgreens offers all kinds of coupons.

They have a lot of coupons in their weekly ads, so don't forget to clip and use them.

They also have a monthly booklet loaded with coupons. 

You can find these coupon booklets located right next to their weekly ads as soon as you walk into the store.

Another place to find Walgreens coupons is right on their website.

Don't forget, you can stack Walgreens coupons with manufacturer coupons.

What does 'stack' mean?

Stacking coupons means you can use a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon on the same product.

When you watch for a sale, use a store Q and use a man. Q, you end up with tremendous savings.

You may even GET PAID to take the stuff out of the store!

I was disappointed that the Ogdensburg Price Chopper would NOT double my dollar coupons.  They said that they only do that a few times a month at their location.

It was hard to stay down after SAVING so much money though!

Total  BEFORE coupons - $402.35

Total AFTER coupons - $198.59

Plus, I got 3 catalinas back - $7.00 OFF next purchase, a FREE gallon of milk and a dollar off from cereal.
